He made the call at the opening of SAT-3  Workshop organised by the West Africa  Telecommunications Regulators Assembly  (WRATA).
He said SAT-3, the submarine communications  cable, expected to fast-track this development  was still largely under-utilised.
SAT-3, links Portugal and Spain to South Africa with connections in other West African countries, along the route. The minister asked mobile telephone companies operating in the sub-region to take advantage of the immense business opportunity in the region which roaming offered.
Roaming in wireless telecommunications refers to the extension of connectivity service in a location that is different from the original location where the service was registered.
With 45 operators across the sub-region, roaming would afford subscribers unfettered  access to other networks particularly during  travel outside the reach and shores of  their network.
He observed that integration among  telecommunications regulators in the sub- region would promote the rapid growth of  Information and Communication Technology  (ICT).
